Other Common Questions / Topics

Q. Do I need to check my heart rate to burn fat/ get fit?
A.Yes. Knowing your heart rate means that you will get the results you are after. For example, if you are trying to burn body fat, you need to keep your heart rate at 60 - 70% of your maximum. If you work too hard - you will burn muscle/liver glycogen, not fat, as fuel and therefore your training will be in vain.

Q. Does 'Dieting' work to lose weight?
A. Although short term, people can experience some weight loss, overall people who 'diet' tend to put the weight back on plus more! The ideal is to alter your eating for life- eat low fat foods ( you must eat some fat in your diet!), eat more fruits and vegetables and enjoy the occasional treat. Cutting foods out completely, especially sweets, usually ends in binge eating. Also regular exercise, 30 mins 3-4 times per week, ensures a healthy lifestyle and promotes weight control.

Q. Is any exercise good exercise?
A. No. if the exercise you do causes injury whether long term or short term then it is better not to exercise at all! An example is the Airwalkers - rather than use the help of the knees working, they rely on the hip and lower back area to perform a 'swinging motion' The person using this item is likely to end up with painful hips and a sore lower back. This is not a good form of exercise. If you want results, use a sound piece of equipment that will help your health, not harm it.
